March 06, 2008 - Science With Me, the premier Internet educational website for children, recently passed the 20,000 membership mark.
“We are very excited in regards to reaching this level of membership,” stated Dr. Elva O’Sullivan, founder and CEO of Science With Me, “our dream is to have every parent and teacher consider us and recommend us as the number one way to get kids interested in and excited about science.”
Science With Me began operations in Princeton, NJ in 2003. The site became a membership site in 2007. Since then the site has experienced steady, ongoing growth as awareness of the site and the resulting popularity with both children and parents grows worldwide.
Animations are one of the focal points of the Science With Me website. These brilliantly produced animations offer children a fun way to gain real scientific knowledge. The site also offers games, worksheets, science projects, e-coloring books, articles, a blog and periodic newsletters.
Heavy emphasis is placed on parent/child interaction and offers parents the opportunity to enhance their own teaching skills through specific instruction aimed at ‘teaching the teacher’.
The Science With Me site developers, Dr. Elva O’Sullivan and Dr. Scott Rickard are no strangers to complex issues. Elva has a Ph.D. in chemistry and Scott holds a Ph.D. in applied mathematics. After some debate, they decided to not hold back and 'over simplify' the Science With Me program. "As parents, we tend not to give our children enough credit for their intellectual capabilities. We've all read the parenting books that tell us this. But nevertheless, we still baby talk, we avoid our kid's tough, direct questions and we do things for our children that they are quite capable of doing themselves, and we tend to think we need to wait until our kids are older to introduce them to things like Science and Math. Scott and I think this is a mistake."
“Within the year,’ stated Dr. O’Sullivan, ‘we intend to greatly expand the offerings found at the Science With Me site. We foresee exponential growth. As a result, within 6 months we intend to arrange site-licensing agreements with school systems worldwide. The possibilities to integrate Science With Me within the existing curriculum of any individual school system are unlimited.”
