April 01, 2009 - Falconer addressed the current state of airport security and the effects these scanners will have on international and domestic travel.
“Current systems have one x-ray source pointing in one direction,” Falconer says. “By adding additional x-ray sources and detectors, we can look at the other side of a package and see it from a different profile.”
By analyzing x-ray signals as they pass through materials, ScanTech’s scanners can also distinguish dangerous materials or substances such as explosive liquids from harmless liquids such as water or baby formula.
ScanTech’s x-ray scanners have already been purchased for airports in the United Arab Emirates, and the Transportation Security Administration has selected its equipment for qualification in the advanced X-ray technology program for domestic airports.
“Employing these scanners in our airports will mean faster security lines and fewer baggage restrictions when you travel,” Falconer says. “This is the future of airport security.”
