  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) July 01, 2014 - Barilla of Parma, Italy, the world's largest producer of pasta and pasta sauces, donated 100 cases of sauce to Caterina's Club, the nonprofit founded by restaurateur Bruno Serato that feeds 5,000+ "motel kids" each week. Serato said he will add his personal touch to the sauces by using spices and other ingredients before topping the pasta and serving the kids. The donation comes on the heels of a previous commitment by Barilla to provide the organization with free pasta for a year.

Serato formed Caterina's Club 9 years ago in honor of his mother to ensure that the region's most vulnerable population - its children -- receive a hot meal before they are tucked into bed each evening. In addition to the nightly meals, Serato has begun placing some of these families into homes of their own.
Established in 1877 as a bread and pasta shop, Barilla is also known for its sauces and bakery products. It distributes 1,700,000 tons of food products to 100 countries each year.

"We are grateful to Barilla for its continued generosity," said Serato. "The need to feed these children keeps growing and it's important that we have supporters in the corporate community lend their support."

In addition to gracing the pages of People Magazine several times, appearing on countless national television programs including "CBS Evening News" and being profiled in newspapers and magazines the world over, it's his place among CNN's Top 10 Heroes for which he's best known. He has also been knighted by the Italian government, received a humanitarian award on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, honored by the Good News Foundation (LA female newscasters who offer financial grants to worthy causes), received numerous proclamations, Man of the Year awards and other forms of recognition -- all of which he has accepted to create greater public awareness of the issue of hunger in our communities.
