SARC Releases Enhanced Digital Steganography Detection Tool

New Version Detects 625 Steganography Applications

(1888PressRelease) February 26, 2007 - Fairmont, West Virginia –February 26, 2007 – Backbone Security's Steganography Analysis and Research Center (SARC) is pleased to announce the release of a new and greatly improved version of their Steganography Analyzer Artifact Scanner (StegAlyzerAS).

StegAlyzerAS allows computer forensic examiners to scan either an entire file system, or individual directories, on suspect media or an image of the suspect media for the presence of steganography application artifacts.

And, unlike any other commercially available forensic steganalysis tool, StegAlyzerAS provides the capability to perform an automated or manual search of the Windows Registry™ which can determine the presence of any Registry keys or values that can be associated with a particular steganography application.

Version 2.1 of StegAlyzerAS can detect all the file and Windows Registry™ artifacts associated with 625 digital steganography and information hiding tools. An additional feature included with this version is the capability to process CDs in standard ISO format.

Digital steganography represents a particularly significant threat today because of the large number of applications freely available on the Internet that are easy to find, download, install, and use to steal sensitive, classified, or proprietary information and conceal evidence of other types of criminal activity.

Steganography applications are easy to find, download, install, and use—many offering familiar “drag and drop” functionality. These applications are considered to be anti-forensic tools because none of the popular forensic tools scan suspect media for the presence or use of steganography.

“StegAlyzerAS now detects more steganography application fingerprints than any other commercially available steganalysis tool in the world and we’re very pleased to offer this truly world-class capability to both domestic and international computer forensic examiners,” said Bart Guerreri, Backbone’s Chairman of the Board. According to Glenn Watt, President and CEO of Backbone, “This tool represents a very significant advance in capability to counter the threat from insider use of steganography—which is a very real, and growing, threat.”
