September 04, 2007 - Most days Elissa Schlichter, D.O. is up at 5 am, but she isn’t making the typical hospital rounds. Instead she is at the gym pumping iron maintaining her competition figure. Over the past several years, Dr. Schlichter has not only developed a thriving practice in Southern California, but she has competed across the nation in Figure Body Building Competitions. She is now taking her love of fitness, her expertise in anti-aging and her medical skills to her general practice. She recently created Great Harbor Family and Sports Medicine, Inc. to address the healthcare needs of not only area athletes but for those of us who just want to be healthier.
Along with her staff of a physician’s assistant, psychologist and medical assistant, she has created a dynamic and comprehensive program in which patients can receive general health care and a medically supervised diet, fitness and anti-aging regimen. Dr. Schlichter and Cindy Baldonado, PA-C, have received comprehensive training in fitness, diet and anti-aging. Melissa Bailey Arizpe, Psy.D. is a health psychologist that provides the behavioral guidance that patients need. This combination of care has created a unique health care experience for the patient. Instead of just reviewing symptoms, Dr. Schlichter and her staff take an all-inclusive view of the patient. Most patients leave the office with not only a prescription, but a whole new way to live healthily.
In the coming months, Dr. Schlichter plans to add a gym to her office and classes on nutrition, fitness and anti-aging strategies. These are not your typical “self-help” groups. They are run by trained medical personnel who practice what they preach. One look at the biceps on Dr. Schlichter is testament to what a good health plan can achieve.
As health care moves toward a more preventative model, Great Harbor Family and Sports Medicine, Inc. is leading the way. Patients that want to get more out of their doctor’s visits and not be “just a number” will be pleasantly surprised by the care they receive.
