December 14, 2007 - SYDNEY – For the second consecutive year, Samsung Electronics Australia is celebrating their partnership with the Australian Film Industry as a sponsor of the L'Oréal Paris 2007 AFI Awards. Now in its 49th year, the event will be held on 6 December at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
“The AFI Award ceremony is a glamorous and stylish evening where our nation’s film & TV industry stars are honoured,” said Shaunagh Gillian, Sponsorship Manager, Samsung Electronics Australia. “We strive to focus our support on achievement and are proud to continue our sponsorship of a prestigious event that recognises outstanding achievement in Australian film and television.”
Following the awards dinner, Samsung are hosting an exclusive post-event at the Samsung Lounge where VIP guests can mingle with Australia’s crème de la crème in the television and film industry. As sponsors of the event, Samsung Mobile will also showcase its new Samsung Widescreen – the ultimate in mobile TV. Released in November, the Samsung Widescreen will be used to display AFI’s Best Film nomination clips to highlight the phones brilliant TV and film watching capabilities.

Leading up to the AFI Awards, Samsung is supporting the AFI News Ltd Reader’s Choice Award. This consumer promotion will offer movie lovers the chance to vote – by either SMS or online – for their favourite actor or actress to be in with a chance to win a trip for two to the Sundance Film Festival in January 2008. The grand prize winner will receive flights, transfers, and three nights’ accommodation. Five other winners will receive a Samsung prize package valued at over $3,600 including a Samsung Widescreen handset, a 32” R7 LCD TV and the new L83 digital still camera. The promotion ends at Noon EST on 6 December, with winners announced on 6 December during the Channel 9 telecast.
The L’Oréal Paris 2007 AFI Awards will be broadcast live nationally on the Nine Network at 9.30pm on 6 December 2007, starting with the Red Carpet Arrivals Special.
