September 02, 2009 - MUMBAI – Mr. S. Paul, often called the Henry Cartier Bresson of India, has joined Microfinance Insights magazine as the judge of the Microfinance Insights Annual Photo Contest 2009. Mr. Paul, the first Indian to have been profiled by the World’s oldest and most prestigious “British Journal of Photography, “Annual”, will bring a keen sense of details and judgment to the contest.
The Microfinance Insights Annual Photo Contest 2009, “Global Shades of Development” is an annual showcase for photographers and development enthusiasts who have captured images of financial inclusion and development in action. Microfinance Insights is currently inviting entries from enthusiasts of microfinance, photography and social development around the world.
The objective of the competition is to provide a fresh context to the subject of development - one that resonates with our increasingly diverse, global audience. Images transcend geographical and cultural boundaries, and we would like to use this medium to help our audience understand the sector better.
Photographs will also be assessed by esteemed judges Ken Light, the social documentary photographer,
and Arjun Kashyap, Senior Editor of Microfinance Insights.
The winning photos will be displayed at Zenzi in Bandra West, Mumbai, India, followed by a three-week long exhibition. Winners will also receive a digital frame, the latest offering from Kodak, a contest sponsor. The contest, which is open to the general public, will accept entries until September 30, 2009. Each participant is allowed to submit a maximum of 10 photographs and there is no participation fee.
The contest is divided into five categories that are open to individual interpretation. We encourage the participants to let loose their creativity and to surprise the judges with innovative ideas. Categories include Color/Vibrancy, Emerging Markets, Overcoming Challenges, Social Enterprise, and Altered Photos. There will be one Best Performance Winner; one Judges’ Winner; and, one Viewers’ Winner from each category.
The winning photos and winners’ names will also be published in the Nov/Dec 2009 issue of Microfinance Insights and in the “Best of 2009” Special Supplement, a compilation of the most popular articles published in the magazine through the year.
