November 02, 2009 - The Greek power plant builders Metka are responsible for constructing the plant and major components such as gas and steam turbines will be supplied by Siemens. Construction is to start in 2010 and the power plant should be commissioned at the end of 2012 if all goes according to plan.
RWE has had its own local company in Turkey since 2008 and considers Turkey to be an important growth market. In view of the strong increase in energy requirements over the long term, there is a great need for expansion and modernisation of power generation. “The state-of-the-art combined cycle gas turbine plant with an efficiency rate of more than 55% will make an decisive contribution towards securing supply in Turkey”, said RWE’s Chief Strategic Officer Leonhard Birnbaum. “The Turkish market is attractive and we wish to carry out a few more projects in order to participate in the growth opportunities the country offers”.
The construction contract covers all necessary preparations for start of construction. RWE will probably make the final investment decision in the first quarter of 2010, once the building permission has been granted.
