November 18, 2009 - The agreement was signed today during State President Tadic’s visit to Berlin to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Economics Minister Rainer Brüderle was also present.
The first step entails plans to build hydro-power plants with a total capacity of up to 3,000 megawatts. RWE will be looking at three potential locations on the Danube, Morava and Drina rivers. The Drina site is located in Republika Srpska, an entity of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Republika Srpska is also supporting the project as it is of cross-border significance for energy supply in the whole region.
Modern hydro pumped-storage and run-of-river power plant technology will tap the extensive hydropower potential in the region and secure CO2-free energy supply to the population there.
