June 15, 2008 - The Rutherford Community Band is again performing its annual summer concerts at 8 p.m. Thursdays in the Hutzel Memorial Bandshell on Park Avenue. Concert dates are: June 26, July 10, and July 24.
The Rutherford band will again feature euphonium player John Palatucci, a respected brass teacher as well as performing musician, conductor, clinician, an adjudicator and educator from Livingston, NJ. Palatucci, who has performed with many well-known symphonies and artists, is also a a charter member of the Ridgewood Concert Band. For Rutherford, he will be playing on "Rhapsody for Euphonium and Concert Band", by James Curnow and "Carnival of Venice" by Herbert L. Clark. Palatucci previously performed these 2 pieces with the Rutherford Band in their Spring Concert held May 3rd at Rutherford High School.
The Band will play many familiar favorites in its concert series this summer. Selections include: "The 4th of July"; "Patrol 76" (featuring the flutes); "Light Cavalry"; "Taste of Licorice" (featuring the clarinets); "Turkey in the Straw"; "South Pacific"; "Rakes of Mallow"; and such favorite marches as "National Emblem"; "Stars and Stripes Forever"; and a John Philip Sousa revival.
For audience members who can't attend the Hutzel bandshell concerts, the Rutherford community band will also be playing Wednesday, July 16 in Ridgefield Park, NJ in McGowan Park. The rain date for that concert is 7:30 p.m. July 17.
The Band is a volunteer organization that acknowledges generous support from the Dept. of Recreation/Borough of Rutherford, the community for donations and continued concert attendance, and the Rutherford Board of Education for the use of practice facilities.
