July 25, 2008 - Raleigh, N.C. - Mike Parker, a woodworking artisan, with 30 years of product design and production experience has been selected as the first speaker for the newly-created RTP Tech Event.
Parker, along with his co-owner, Ann Cowperthwaite, create custom furniture and architechtural cabinetry at their company Eidolon Designs, Inc., in Raleigh. Their facility makes extensive use of the high technology capacity of suppliers in the region and combines that technology with their own in-house customized product design and development.
“I am very enthusiastic about the benefits of collaboration on innovation with other small manufacturers in the RTP,” said Parker. “I have some ideas about trends in our woodworking and furniture industry which I think may be beneficial for other owners, and I am anxious to begin this dialogue in Raleigh.”
Tom Vass, the organizer of the RTP Tech Event, said he has known Mike Parker since the mid-1980’s, when Parker came to Vass for business financial advice. “Mike Parker is the perfect selection for this event,” said Vass. “He is a craftsman and a thinker, and he understands the value of networking with other owners on innovation and improving the business climate in Raleigh for small manufacturers,” Vass added.
The first RTP Tech Event @ Goodnights will be on August 28, 2008, and features presentations on technology and new markets for small manufacturing companies in both woodworking and furniture and precision tools (SIC 24/25 and SIC 35).
“The main idea for this event,” said Vass, “is to brainstorm new ideas for new products and create more business among the members of the RTP manufacturing community.” Event registration is available at MeetUp.com.
