Rodman And Rodman, P.C. Urges Donors To Evaluate Charitable Organizations Before Contributing

As Certified Public Accountants and Business Strategists serving individuals as well as small and medium-sized companies throughout New England for 47 years, Rodman & Rodman, P.C. recommends that charitable donors evaluate charitable organizations prior to making donations.

(1888PressRelease) July 25, 2008 - With more than 5,300 charitable organizations in America alone, it can be difficult to discern where your charitable donation would do the most good. Rodman & Rodman recommends that donors research charitable organizations through Charity Navigator before making contributions.

Charity Navigator, an independent charity evaluator found at charitynavigator.org, can help charitable donors better understand how charities work – from how much of a charity’s revenue is expended on programs, to how efficient a charity is, to the services the charity delivers.

Rodman & Rodman also advises charitable donors to:

• Check that the charitable organization status is 501(c)(3). This status is granted to organizations by the IRS which it has determined to qualify as a charitable organization under their strict guidelines.
• Do your homework and check the financial solvency of the charitable organization by reviewing the organization’s financial records.
• Save all acknowledgements; receipts or cancelled check(s) from donations you have made for tax filing purposes.

“Oftentimes emotion is the motivating factor for individuals when it comes to choosing a charity in which to donate. But, before writing a check, donors may be interested to know where their money is really going. There are charities out there that always seem to need money, yet it may not be due to reduced contributions. It may be due to inefficient operations,” noted Steven P. Rodman, CPA, MST, president of Rodman & Rodman. “We recommend that charitable donors visit charitynavigator.org, where they will find in-depth information about where their charitable donation is going.”
