October 29, 2009 - At the end of September, "Souled Out Comedy," produced and starring Rick Younger, won the Audience Award at the inaugural Friar's Club Film Festival. The documentary trails six African-American comedians on the stand-up circuit, who aim to dismantle the stereotypes, bringing clean, classy, hilarious comedy from the soul. Jonathan Appel directed this film.
This has been a very busy year for Rick Younger. He won the Best Male Stand Up MAC Award for his one-man show, "The Rick Younger Show"; he shot an episode of both "Law & Order: SVU" and "Damages"; and has appeared in commercials for Starburst, ESPN, Verizon Wireless, and McDonald's (and taped a T-Mobile spot on October 11). Also, he can be seen every month on NBC's Today Show segment, "Guys Tell All."
Rick will be on the big screen in 2010 in "Morning Glory," featuring Harrison Ford, Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton, and Jeff Goldblum. The film was shot in New York this summer.
He is a contributor to Comedy Cures, a non-profit organization that brings joy, hope, laughter and therapeutic comedy programs to kids and grown-ups living with illness, trauma, depression and disabilities.
