December 14, 2006 - RICHARD BUFFINGTON SIGNS WITH CIFL'S NEW ENGLAND SURGE AS HEAD COACH
WORCESTER, MA. – New England Surge Football – the newest fix for football fanatics has arrived at the DCU Center in Worcester. The Surge has become the 12th team to enter the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL), and Owner/President Roy Lucas, Jr. is excited to announce the signing of Head Coach & Director of Football Operations Richard Buffington, of Somerset, MA. Coach Buff, as he widely known, has held coaching & executive positions with the AFL, NFL, and USFL including the New England Patriots, and the New York Jets. Coach Buff is the fourth winning-est’ coach in the CIFL and is a pro both on and off the field.
“To attract and sign Coach Buff into our organization is a true testament to the potential of this franchise. His credentials set the foundation for professionally running a successful team. He wholeheartedly believes in our mission to positively influence both the players and the community and will serve a pivotal role in our community outreach efforts” says Mr. Lucas.
Coach Buff’s experience in football franchising has lead him to many teams, but he says “ I am thrilled and flattered that Roy approached and offered me this unique opportunity. I love putting together new pro football franchises, and placing people in a positive direction working in sports management and coaching.”
Coach Buff will officially join the New England Surge team in January. He will assume responsibility of national player recruitment efforts and coordinate the final open tryout scheduled for January 14 at Hit Quarters in Shrewsbury, MA.
