Rezidor signs UN Global Compact “Caring for Climate” initiative

The Rezidor Hotel Group is one of the first international hotel groups to endorse “Caring for Climate” – a voluntary initiative of the United Nations Global Compact calling for urgent and extensive action on the parts of governments, business and citizens on climate change.

(1888PressRelease) June 07, 2009 - By signing “Caring for Climate”, Rezidor reinforces its commitment to the further development of corporate strategies and practices to reduce carbon emissions. The group also continues to publicly disclose emissions and to work together with governments in countries where Rezidor hotels are located to develop climate friendly policies.

“Rezidor has recently signed to the UN Global Compact and fully supports the sub-initiative “Caring for Climate””, comments Kurt Ritter, President & CEO. “Climate change has become a fundamental issue for society, and the need for action and leadership is becoming ever more urgent.” Rezidor, one of the fastest growing hotel groups worldwide and active in 58 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, has long been demonstrating leadership with its environmental programme. It dates back to 1996 and in 2001 was expanded to become the comprehensive company-wide “Responsible Business programme”– comprising three main pillars: health & safety of guests and employees, social & ethical issues within the company and the community, and a reduced negative impact on the environment.

In accordance with the programme’s ambitious objectives, Rezidor is constantly pro-active on the Responsible Business sector, organising environmental and social activities at regional, national and international level. The group has eco-labelled almost 100 hotels and significantly reduced energy, water and waste. Most recently Rezidor also contributed to the World Economic Forum “Towards a Low Carbon Travel & Tourism Report” which reviews the impact of the travel sector on climate change and presents cross-sector emission reduction measures, and was launched last week at the World Business Summit on Climate Change at the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel, Copenhagen.

“Rezidor is committed to taking action to combat climate change and we will continue to cooperate with governments, society and our peers to assist others do the same”, ends Kurt Ritter.
