May 27, 2008 - (GUELPH, Ontario, Canada – Restaurantica, a leading restaurant review website, announces today that it has surpassed 100,000 dining reviews, awarding a $200 prize in its member contest. The prize went to the first member who reviewed after Restaurantica’s 100,000th review.
“This contest was an opportunity for us to thank our reviewers,” says Lance Mohring, President of Restaurantica. “In just 5 years, we’ve grown from a small local restaurant review site, to a dynamic review community spanning North America, with more than 100,000 posted reviews.”
Contest winner Vanessa, of Little Britain, ON, has been using Restaurantica for more than two years. Although she knew about the contest, Vanessa (who reviews as LastMango) was surprised to hear that her review of the Magic Rolling Pin Tea Room and Patisserie had won. “I saw that it was getting close, but I never win anything, so I didn’t really pay much attention to it.” Her prize is a $200 restaurant gift certificate to the Jean Bonnet Tavern. She plans to use it for an upcoming vacation with friends where “the gift certificate will go a long way towards dinner for the 6 of us.”
With more than 10,000 members, advanced restaurant search functions and reviews submitted both by registered members and anonymous diners, Restaurantica attributes its growth to continuing to stay true to its core; serving candid local restaurant reviews. By letting the public give their own restaurant recommendations, they’re publishing their own dining guide.
“That’s how I really got hooked,” said Vanessa, who usually reviews local restaurants, but uses the site to find the best restaurants when she visits other cities.
Restaurantica currently lists more than 390,000 restaurants throughout Canada and the United States, making it one of the most comprehensive, accurate and popular food review destinations. It enables diners to use just one website to locate excellent restaurants both at home and when travelling. Currently searchers can find restaurant addresses, websites and phone numbers, a map for directions, and they can read unbiased reviews written by registered members and anonymous diners alike. Recent improvements include a modern design, improved restaurant listings and the ability to make online reservations for more than 7000 restaurants.
In the next few months Restaurantica will launch a restaurant owner program so restaurant owners (and managers) can add more information such as pictures, menus and parking information.
