April 17, 2007 - When the glittering Spring Soiree illuminates the Victoria College Chapel stage on May 24, 2007 at 8pm, Barbara Fris, one of Canada's most versatile lyrico-spinto sopranos, will perform some of the French composer Claude Debussy’s most provocative songs.
Canadian soprano Barbara Fris has been praised by the Edmonton Journal for “…her sensuous warmth, great reserves of power and emotional expressiveness.” She possesses a gorgeous vocal instrument with uncanny beauty of tone … “a story-teller that marries her expressive lyricism with exemplary diction and compelling acting.” Chronicle Herald (Halifax). Ms. Fris has performed on many of Canada’s major opera stages, in Europe and the United States, always to critical and audience acclaim.
Toronto pianist and accompanist Jane Blackstone will share the spotlight when Ms. Fris returns to the recital platform in her Debussy selections.
The evening’s program will also feature piano virtuoso Lawrence Pitchko and friends in various works for solo piano.
The Spring Soiree takes place on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Victoria College Chapel, 2nd Floor, Room 213 – Victoria College Building 91 Charles Street West, Toronto M5S 2C7 .
