June 30, 2006 - Washington, D.C. -- Pain does not have to be a part of a dancer’s experience. The chronic injuries that sideline dancers and end performing arts careers often result from of a lack of clear information about what the body can and cannot do.
Now former professional ballet dancer, Andrea Higgins, has developed a groundbreaking workshop that takes a proactive approach to injury prevention in dance. Higgins, a Pilates instructor who holds a master’s degree in dance and is certified as a student teacher of Awareness Through Movement® through the Feldenkrais Guild of North America, will present her new workshop at 4501 Connecticut Avenue in N.W. Washington, D.C., on January 4, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
The one-day workshop is a preview of a comprehensive, 12-week program that Higgins and Alexander Technique instructor, Lynn Brice Rosen, of Art-in-Movement, will be launching on January 11, 2004. The two movement specialists, who share the Connecticut Avenue studio where the workshops are being held, joined forces with the goal of teaching performing artists how to train without strain and pain.
