February 26, 2008 - Bedford Heights, OH - Pyramyd Air, the largest airgun dealer in the world, has worked with developers to produce a gas spring for the Webley Patriot and Gamo air rifles.
Known as the Air Venturi Ram Air gas spring, it replaces the coiled metal spring traditionally used in spring-piston air rifles. A gas spring offers many benefits over metal springs, such as no spring fatigue (even if the gun is cocked for hours), no spring torque, less recoil, smoother shooting, smoother cocking, perfect functioning in cold weather and a longer life than metal springs.
Gas springs for airguns are similar to the gas strut that holds up the back deck of a minivan or the strut that makes an office chair height-adjustable. For decades, gas struts have also replaced metal springs in many industrial and commercial applications because they're dependable and last longer than metal. In fact, some airgun manufacturers have used gas springs for many years, most notably Theoben in England.
Initially developed for the Webley Patriot, one of the most popular hunting air rifles made today, an Air Venturi Ram Air gas spring has also been developed for Gamo Whisper and Gamo CFX air rifles.
With just a few tools, including a mainspring compressor, an airgunner can install an Air Venturi Ram Air gas spring in his air rifle. Gas spring prices start at $109.99. Installation is available at a minimal charge.
