July 02, 2008 - (Evanston, IL - New author Lydia Skalozub unveils her book, a Web site and expanded offerings from her self-named publishing company as it celebrates its first anniversary. Visitors to the Skalozub Publishing site can order her new book, "Feelings Floods," which includes romantic poetry and a Chekov-style play set in Russia. They can also submit a book for publishing or gain information on self-publishing. Books by other authors are planned to be offered in the future.
Writing "Feelings Floods," was the impetus behind founding her own publishing company, Skalozub admits. Like many first-time authors, "I very quickly realized that no one was interested in the book publication but me alone," she says. After successfully releasing her book by herself, she decided to offer the opportunity to other authors.
"Skalozub Publishing is interested in issuing books for a broad audience," Skalozub says, and she will accept for review manuscripts from new as well as established writers. "Feelings Floods" was originally written in Russian, and Skalozub notes her company also now offers the service of English translation for materials in the Russian language.
Any authors of materials not meeting Skalozubs publishing criteria will be offered guidance in self-publishing. "I myself have undertaken the whole process, from the book’s writing, its publication, to its distribution to its purchasers." says Skalozub. "I was able to do this for myself, and I will help [others] do it too," she says.
The authors Skalozub helps will become independent self-publishers with full control of their work. Whether released by Skalozub Publishing, or subject to the self-publishing process, Skalozub promises her authors "will have the advantage that I will personally traverse all the steps of [the] future book’s production."
Skalozub acknowledges that a play and poetry such as she has written do not enjoy a wide popular audience like mystery or romance books. But just because a manuscript might not enjoy widespread sales does not mean it lacks literary merit. Skalozub relates that she also lacked confidence at first: "That my play reached the semifinal of a playwriting competition at the College of Arts & Sciences at University of Oregon, as well as the positive responses from several theatres...bolstered my wish to publish this play." Some of her poems were also selected for music projects by Hill Top Records.
Skalozub Publishing has enlisted the help of an outside fulfillment company, Confidential LPD, who handles all orders and shipping of Skalozub authors materials. In addition, free shipping is available.
The Web site offers a shopping cart service for customers convenience, and is maintained by Venturewise Design of New Jersey, which also does copyediting and other services for the publishing company. This allows Skalozub the freedom to concentrate on aiding her authors.
A native of Russia, Skalozub now resides in Illinois. Skalozub Publishing was founded in June, 2007.
