July 07, 2007 - One year ago, Zachary Sexton stood at a traffic jam of struggling new authors all vying for attention at the same frustrating crossroad. There were only three choices; continue to stand unnoticed amid the traffic, admit defeat and go home, or launch his own publishing agency. An agency specifically aimed toward launching careers and providing free assistance to focused writers. The third option was the only one worth considering.
Having since been published under a pseudonym, Zachary’s passion for providing a voice to new writers hasn’t wanned but increased. For over two years he has worked in close mentorship with a highly respected senior editor and knows many worthy manuscripts are rejected daily simply because the author is an unknown. “It costs a lot of money to publish a book in the traditional sense.” He said. “Publishers can’t be blamed for being reticent to take on a new author considering the financial outlay and the risk. Many literary agents already have a full client list; they too take a risk with each unknown author they sign. It’s the tough reality of the industry.”
Zacton Press is an agency geared toward the author. A platform for new writers to step away from the crossroad traffic jam and find a voice. Intended toward launching careers and providing exposure, Zacton Press aims to build its reputation as an ePublisher of excellent quality fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Curious literary agents and publishers can rest assured Zacton Press authors have gone through a selective process. The future Zacton Press eBookstore – planned to open mid to late 2008 – will offer its customers only the best.
Zachary’s advice to new writers, “You need a dogged attitude to succeed in this business. A publisher or agent doesn’t know you from Adam and you must show you are worth the risk. Writing an excellent manuscript isn’t enough; you need to prove you can do the work required. Continue to learn, take the advice of experts in the business, and never say die. I believe publishers and agents are searching for more than just talent. They want an entire marketable package and an author willing to put in the hard yards.”
Zacton Press is actively seeking submissions in all genres including poetry and short story collections, non-fiction, children’s and young adult fiction, and GBLT fiction.
