May 31, 2007 - The 5 teenagers of the emerging D.C. music group “Profound Intent” will release their new single “Let’s Get Krunk” to North America radio late-June 2007. The single has spawn controversy sparked by two unfriendly words and the groups’ questionable intentions.
Some say the group is simply ‘playing the field’ with the recent media attention and the many expectations that come with being a positive music group. This is not a “publicity stunt” for the well-known group and its famous “frontman” LaPret; this is just an unexpected “parental advisory”.
Many would not expect a group whose ultimate purpose or “intent” is to have a positive influence on youth to get the censor flag or to have an explicit version of their hit-single.
The concept of “Let’s Get Krunk” is quite simple; it caters to the clubs and the mainstream “urban” audience and establishes some stability for the group to compete with those already established heavyweights. New lead Shanice “Nee-Cee” Cooper (18) got the major censorship for using the “s” word in her verse; which says “I ain’t got time for haters, they on my bottom list, so if they start talking shit, they gon catch a fist”. Not only is she censored for using the “s” word but her verse alone raises some questions as to what the group is trying to say and rather or not they were intending to have a positive influence on youth.
Original member Kie’Arra “Mizz Redz” Pretlow (17, Rapper) doesn’t hesitate as she plays into using the word “damn” in her rap. Though this word doesn’t always get the censor flag, the problem this time around is whose saying it. The rapper once again delivers both great vocals and rhymes as she did on “Play the Field” but somewhat shows some maturity through her choice of words.
Contraction, Yes, big time! However the group is credited for bouncing back after 2006’s “Play the Field” which didn’t get the much needed promotion and support from a stable record label which would’ve boosted the single onto the major charts and radio. “Let’s Get Krunk” has amazingly already received some 3-4 star ratings and reviews from both fans and critics after the May 29, 2007 exclusive release to selected online sites.
