June 25, 2009 - The FIABCI awards are recognition of the very best in the global property development arena. Prestige Elgin, a landmark property in Bangalore from the Prestige Group won this distinction in the Heritage (Restoration) category. The win registered by Prestige proves that India has gone beyond mere participation in the highly competitive International arena.
The Prestige Group, however, is no stranger to International recognition and this is the third FIABCI award won by the company. About Prestige Elgin – the award winning project
A distinctive red brick structure the Elgin Flour Mills had, over the years, grown into a well loved landmark on Hosur Road which is Bangalore’s South Eastern exit route. In fact, for a traveler leaving Bangalore, in the 70s and earlier, Elgin was one of the last recognisable landmarks, which once passed indicated that you were leaving the city. Bangaloreans have fond memories of the imposing red brick edifice, in its extensive grounds that had been an indelible part of the landscape on Hosur Road for over a hundred years.
As modernisation swept through Bangalore, in the eighties and nineties, it threatened the Elgin Flour Mills as well, which had already been forced to close down. When matters reached a point where the much beloved building itself was in danger of being brought down, Prestige stepped in. Being a Bangalore at heart, Prestige shared the sentiment of every Bangalorean towards Elgin. The idea was then conceived to take over the property and redevelop it into premium residential complex, while completely retaining the original building’s distinct character. As a result, visually nothing has really changed to the old Bangalorean, as he drives down Hosur Road. His memories of the red brick building are still alive and very real in the form of Prestige Elgin.
