May 30, 2008 - To help reduce incidents of drowning occurrences in swimming pools, Poseidon Pools is requiring every employee take swimming pool safety classes in a forum they call their “Pool Safety in Design” initiative. Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death among children ages one to fourteen. As a responsible swimming pool contractor, Poseidon Swimming Pools is aware of this statistic and is optimistic that engaging in “Pool Safety in Design” workshops will help reduce the number of accidental drowning and deaths caused by swimming pools.
“We have always made safety an important part of job training and it has always been an important element in every swimming pool we design,” said Tom Helinski, one of the owners of Poseidon Swimming Pools. “We are always impressing upon our contractors and designers about swimming pool safety as an ongoing part of on the job training. However, this ongoing training and presence has been largely informal,” said Tom Helinski, one of the owners of Poseidon Swimming Pools.”
Mr. Helenski goes on to say that “safety was always at the forefront of importance when building and designing a swimming pool. We have always introduced safe designs and suggested options such as permanent fencing around pools and closed circuit televisions around your pool area. But, I feel our customers need something more concrete to show our commitment to safety. Any swimming pool designer can create an elaborate backyard oasis, but it takes a truly skilled pool designer to couple safety with elaborate designs. The idea of ‘safe’ designs is nothing new to us, but now we will have certifications to back up our ideology.”
Attending the “Pool Safety in Design” workshops will be mandatory for everyone in the company from the swimming pool contractors to the designers to the office staff. Poseidon believes the more that the contractors and the company as a whole are formally aware of every level of safety and pool accident prevention, the more they are able to build a safer swimming pool. Poseidon wants swimming pool safety to be just as important as an elaborate custom designed swimming pool. They feel that the yearly requirement of engaging in the “Pool Safety in Design” classes will serve as a constant reminder of how important swimming pool safety is to our industry.
Poseidon Pools stresses that owning a swimming pool is terrific, and at the same time, a tremendous responsibility. People must be aware of the dangers that go along with ownership of a pool. While most pool companies prefer to steer clear of discussing the unpleasant subject during the sale of the pool, Poseidon feels that it is their duty. The swimming pool owner will not always be there to maintain a level of safety around their swimming pool area so creating the safest swimming pool atmosphere must be paramount in any design. As part of the new initiative, Poseidon Swimming Pools will formally prove their commitment to creating swimming pool environments that are as safe as they are breathtaking.
