April 09, 2007 - UploadEngine, the popular large file hosting site, is back online at http://www.uploadengine.com, after a five month absence. The site, which was once carried the elite Alexa rank of 5,000, is back online, offering to host legal files as large as 2,000 MB (2 GB) for its users. At UploadEngine, users find free storage space to host their large files, such as home videos, photographs, presentations, audio and voice files, etc. After uploading, users receive two links: one to share or post online, and another to remove the file permanently.
The site was a victim of its own early success, succumbing to the tremendous demands placed on its servers for file hosting storage space, internet bandwidth and processor power, and constrained by its proprietary software.
Since its rebirth, UploadEngine has been placed in a scaleable server environment, with updated software that will be able to keep pace with its rapid growth.
Even after 5 months offline, with no advanced publicity, the site served more than 1,500 unique users on its first day online, with traffic growing rapidly each day thereafter. In its present configurable state, UploadEngine can serve up to 25,000 unique users (uploads and downloads) per 24 hour period.
The assets of UploadEngine were sold at auction in November, 2006, and were acquired by Encryptomatic llc, a software and web properties developer. Under the terms of service, UploadEngine will host legal files only, and declines to host pornography or any file which violates a copyright holder’s rights. When found or reported, illegal files or unwanted content are immediately removed from UploadEngine servers.
