Political Analyst Leads Charge Against Double Standards

True American News has published an article by political analyst Thurman Boyd Hayes III that takes to task Al Sharpton and other black leaders for their failure to address the popular "ghetto" culture in the wake of the Imus scandal. Such sentiments have touched off a wave of support across America.

Political analyst Thurman Boyd Hayes III seems to have struck a chord with America, as sentiments that he first expressed in a piece for True American News and syndicated by World Net News http://forums.prospe ro.com/n/mb/display.asp?webtag=kr-b iloxigenera&msg=9462.1 have been repeated on the Today Show and on newspaper message boards around the country. Today Show commentators Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira both interviewed a variety of guests who addressed the double standard that seems to exist where black rappers are allowed to say derogatory comments about women and blacks, but no one else is. But the real crux of the Thurman piece was that Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the NAACP and others, should be held responsible as well for permitting the double standard to exist and to grow into a “rot” that is “untenable” in America today. That wasn’t addressed on the NBC program at all, but it seems to have resonated with readers from across America.

Roysoldboy from Akron commented that “This is one of the closest things to the way I have thought about racial blacks in some time. I have to agree that Sharpton and Jackson are two of the most racial people in this nation. I have to agree that the use of that word that we can't type on this forum, h o, without disguising it is so sad that those who do use it all the time to make a living should all be jailed for it. I have thought for a long time that when black people stop calling their brothers the N word it will disappear from our nation.” He closed with, “Lots of good stuff here that needs to be read by so many of our people but won't be seen by any of those who need to see it.” http://forums.prospero.com/kr-ohio_n ews/messages?msg=8647.2

From San Luis Obispo, Tribune reader Moveby2010 echoed the same sentiments, saying “Pretty well put in this piece, however to oppose the suspension or criminalization of Imus would be suicidal for any modern media commentator, and this guy is just another marginalized conservative commentator,” adding, “This commentator is correct that there is a multiple standard, and that Imus used a popularized word.” http://forums.prospero.com/kr-SLOgeneral/messages?msg=1482.2

In Columbus, Georgia, Ledger-Enquirer reader Rebel1 replied, “Wow, that was a GREAT ARTICLE!! It was dead on the money too!”

http://forums.prospero.com/kr-LEOg ennews/messages?msg=2292.2 while in Myrtle Beach, The Sun News readers not only agreed with the general tone of the Thurman piece but echoed negative sentiments against Al Sharpton and other so-called black leaders. NeonPenguin said, “This article exactly explains my views in regard to the Don Imus "Running of his mouth" issue. I no more believe that Imus is a racist then what black rappers proclaim in their lyrics about their own kind. I personally have many black friends. Why do Jesse and Sharpton jump on "The great disrespect of blacks", because that's what make their own world tick. What about the disrespect of whites in the world? Look I'm not picking a bone with anyone in the black segment, but don't be misled that major leaders within are always right in their appraisal of the situation.”

CaptnJack, Squidward, and AngieBlue, all voiced negative comments against the leadership of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and blamed the tolerance of negative behavior of black rappers and comedians for creating the climate that allowed for Imus to even think for a moment that he could make the remarks that he did about the Rutgers women’s basketball team, calling them in part, “nappy headed hos” http://forums.prospero.com/kr-generalfor um/messages?msg=5683.2 .

The unique feature of the Thurman article was his withering and all out assault against the so-called black leaders in America. Seeing the wave of support that the article has generated in less than 24 hours, the question could be raised as to what possible effect it could have over time. If enough people feel as strongly about the issue of the culpability of the black leadership in America for the degrading behavior of black artists and the so-called “ghetto culture”, it could begin to have a dramatic effect of the ability of leaders like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to enjoy the prestige and credibility that so far, they have profited from.

Thurman said in part, “This hypocrisy of black leadership has not gone unrecognized. Writing for USA Today, columnist DeWayne Wickman said the same basic thing http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/co lumnist/wickham/2006-11-27-wickham_x.htm?csp=34 . I'm going further, calling for the hypocrisy of the so-called black leadership in this country to stop or they are held accountable for complicity in what has become a national disgrace of untenable proportions. While Imus is guilty of making a mistake in very bad taste, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the NAACP, and others, literally have blood on their hands because, in the vacuum that they have created, chasing after bigoted boogey-men while ignoring the root causes of the continuation of racial discontent, they have allowed much of their proclaimed constituency to descend to the level of being a living advertisement for the return of the Confederacy.”

Thurman closed his article with the strident remark that, “They all owe African Americans in particular, but the rest of the country as well, a great big apology and a promise that they'll do better, starting right now, this instant. However, I'm not naive enough to count on that anytime soon. I, unlike them, recognize moral bankruptcy when I see it.”

Thurman Boyd Hayes could not be reached for comment in time for this article.
