March 20, 2007 - Richmond, VA 3/19/07 – Author and Playwright, Peg Herring has just launched her first blog designed to support playwrights and small theater directors. The blog, entitled The Play’s the Thing…, can be found at http://theplaysthething.blogspot.com/ where she gives hints and advice to like-minded people who may have questions about making a small production better or breaking into the business of writing plays.
“I had so many people asking me how I made theater work so successfully on such a small stage, or on a shoestring budget, or without the proper community support – that I finally decided just to write everything down and make it more accessible to everyone,” Herring says with a smile. “I also had many people ask how I got my plays published…so I’m working on some helpful advice for that, too,” she adds.
Herring’s advice for small theaters and wannabe playwrights is free online for anyone who’s interested. She also encourages people with questions to contact her via the blog, http://theplaysthething.blogspot.com/ or via email at pegfish ( @ ) yahoo dot com and she will help however she can dot
Her intent is to advise people of what she has learned from being a director of small theater for many years and share ideas and suggestions from others who have been through similar situations or want to share their experiences. “Making a small theater work is not as difficult as it might seem,” she says, “but it does take hard work, community support, a committed team, and more hard work!”
Herring’s latest play, The Gangster Priest, is available online at www.dramasource.com and her website can be visited at www.pegherring.com. Look for Peg Herring’s mystery novel, Macbeth’s Niece, in stores and libraries in early 2008.
