    The Magnificent Mile Race is the first of the eight-race Second Empire Grand-Prix Fall Series. It serves as the USATF North Carolina State one-mile championship and includes a recreational run/walk, kids' races, entertainment, food and family-friendly activities. The event is part of Endurance Magazine's Race Without a Trace initiative, which encourages sustainable and environmentally conscious activities, and the NC-USATF-Endurance Magazine 2010 Long Distance Running Championship Series.

    Sarah Roberts-Witt, co-founder and inspiration behind The Magnificent Mile Race, was an avid runner and marathoner until developing primary lateral sclerosis in 2004. She is now confined to a wheelchair and is unable to speak. This race combines her love of running with her desire to find a cure for motor neuron disease.
