September 16, 2009 - This afforestation event was commenced on August 01, 2009, at Arvind Gupta D.A.V. Centenary Public School in Model Town - Phase II, New Delhi.
This four hours long programme commenced at 10 AM and saw the participation of children from XI standard. Organized in order to deal with the pressing problem of the increasing levels of harmful pollutants in the atmosphere, this event started with the illumination of the lamp by the honorable Chief Guest, Dr. S.R. Arora followed by an introductory speech from the school Principal Mrs. Mala Sood and the Manager Dr. V.B. Aggrawal, who threw some light on how the continually increasing levels of the pollutants in the air posed a major threat to not only the environment but on our society and ecosystem as a whole.
Headed by Mrs. Sheela Bhardwaj, this event was marked by the presence of several Research Scholars and upcoming Scientists from the National Physics Laboratory (NPL). SCRAP members like Mr. Hemant Kumar Singh, stressed on the importance of planning trees that would help reduce the pollution level by neutralizing the carbon monoxide and methane content in the air. Mr. Ashok Sharma and Mr. Mithilesh Tiwari, besides the other SCRAPPIANS, gave a brief introduction about the SCRAP event and the main motto behind organizing such an event for creating social reformation & awareness.
Realizing the urgent need to curb further degradation of our surroundings and to help sustain healthy living for present and future generations, this event was marked with various interactive activities that included an enthralling yet enlightening musical performance by the DAV Public School's music teachers, Mrs. Neelam Sharma who was accompanied on Tabla by Mr. Naeem Khan. With the aim to create mass awareness about the deteriorating environmental conditions the world over and fostering its restoration, a rally was also organized at Rajender Nagar on August 02, 2009 in NPL Hostel, besides pamphlet distribution for mass participation of Research Scholars taking the responsibility of at least one plant.
