August 20, 2006 - This news flash discusses the July 18, 2006, announcement by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Secretary Mike Leavitt that the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) had certified its first set of ambulatory electronic medical record (EMR) products. Twenty products received certification. To be certified, each product had to demonstrate that it was 100% compliant with CCHIT’s published criteria. The criteria ensure that the certified products possess broad-based functionality, provide security to protect personal health information, and demonstrate a high likelihood that the software could ultimately evolve into an interoperable solution.
