Pine Street Carpenters Celebrate 15 Years Riding For A Cure

Pine Street Carpenters, Inc., a design-build remodeling company, will participate in the American Cancer Society's bike-a-thon for the 15th consecutive year.

Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) June 28, 2008 - This July, local remodeling company Pine Street Carpenters, Inc., will mark its 15th year riding in the annual American Cancer Society Bike-a-thon. The event will be held July 13, with participants riding from the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia to Buena, NJ. In total: 64.6 miles.

Brendon Dolan, president of Pine Street Carpenters, first rode in the ACS Bike-a-thon in July of 1993, and over the past fourteen years his company has fielded a team of riders in the fight for a cure for cancer. Pine Street teams have raised over $50,000 for the ACS during that time.

Dolan has been an avid cyclist since childhood and today regularly commutes to the office via bicycle. He found the ACS Bike-a-thon a perfect fit for his interests.

“It’s a great way to do some good while doing something I love,” says Dolan. “The ACS does incredible work, and the bike-a-thon provides much-needed funding for the search for a cure.”

Last August, Dolan lost his own father, Bill Dolan, Sr., to cancer. A businessman by day, Bill Dolan introduced Brendon and his six brothers to carpentry through unending weekend projects when they were children. “There was always something to be fixed around the house,” Brendon recalls, “and our dad did it.” Upon retirement from Cigna, Bill Dolan began working part-time for Pine Street. Today, his seven sons all work for the company.

Brendon Dolan isn’t the only avid cyclist at Pine Street. Lead carpenter Tom O’Neill of East Lansdowne, a member of the Lowe Riders bike team in Downingtown, has cycled in the ACS bike-a-thon for 10-plus years. Combining his love of biking and carpentry, O’Neill is also currently volunteering his time to help plan and build bridges for trails at the new Harmony Hill Nature Area in East Bradford Township (formerly the Sonoco property).

Joining Dolan and O’Neill on the ACS ride this year will be fellow Pine Street Carpenters and their friends and family. Together with thousands of riders, they will pedal their way toward raising some $2 million for the ACS this year.

The ACS offers different starting points to riders who do not wish to make the entre 64.6 mile trek. To register for the ride or support the ACS, visit www.acsbike.org or call 215.985.5401.
