April 02, 2007 - Under the skilled direction of Christopher Smith, a very gifted Morgan Brown creates Leonard Silva as a delightfully twisted serial killer/cannibal in the vein of Jeff Dahmer... his character giving us smiles and frowns that the original Big Bad Wolf would envy. Matching him bite for bite is actor Michael Q. Schmidt, giving wonderful life to three distinctly different characters as triplet brothers... Barney Stubbs, Eldon Stubbs, and Jonas Stubbs. As the slovenly Barney, Michael shows us an ass-scratchin', belly-belchin', trailer-trash brother whose idea of a fine dining is beer and cold pizza in front of reruns of "Hee Haw". As the uptight Eldon, Michael brings to life the quintessential middle-class white-bread male whose every life moment must be accounted for with OCD punctuality. And as the aloof Jonas, Michael shows us his true range when he brings us the deliberate and quite practical dot-com technophile who keeps total control of his own world.
Just as in the original Three Little Pigs, the antagonist wins over his first two victims, only to meet his demise at the hands of the third... and seen through the eyes of the viewer, the three brothers are just as described above. But when seen through the eyes of the ever-hungry Leonard Silva, they are quite literally meat-on-the-hoof as hysterically portrayed by Michael in full makeup and prosthetics. From the floppy ears to the upturned snout to the twisted and curley little tail... through Leonard's eyes, we see Piggies.
One must keep in mind that although this is a film that will have the viewer rolling in the aisles, it is a much, much darker tale than the original. You might wish to leave the kiddies at home. "PIGGIES" will have its premier screening at the Newport Beach International Film Festival at 5:30 PM on April 26th. This is one you will definitely want to share with friends.
