August 08, 2009 - Petoskey's 7th Annual Festival on the Bay will be held August 14, 15 and 16. Petoskey, Michigan is nestled on the shores of Lake Michigan and boasts million-dollar sunsets over Little Traverse Bay. The festival celebrates all that Northern Michigan has to offer.
The festival focuses on local and regional musical talent with a spectacular range of music to choose from. Performances begin at noon on Friday and Saturday in the Entertainment Tent and all festival concerts are free. Headlining Friday night are Jelly Roll Blues at 6pm, the Petoskey Steel Drum Band at 7pm and Grand Rapids' Blue Moon Blues Band at 8:30 pm. The Children's Area offers activities for families including the KHQ Bounce House, the NorthWings of SEE-North birds of prey exhibit; nature hikes by Getting Kids Outdoors, the dunk tank, games, crafts and more. The Children's Area will be open Friday afternoon from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Festival on the Bay offers many activities including free Jiimaan Canoe rides and kayak demonstrations, and airboat rides for $10 per person. Downtown shoppers will have a chance to win a treasure chest full of prizes from downtown businesses in the Treasures in Petoskey contest. Pennsylvania Park in downtown Petoskey will feature Concerts in the Park on Friday and the annual Arts & Crafts Fair on Saturday.
Competitive sporting events during Festival on the Bay include volleyball games, the Wellness Walk and 5K Run on Saturday, and the Triathlon and Duathlon on Sunday.
Festival goers are invited to witness the breath-taking beauty of the sunset over Little Traverse Bay during the Celebration of the Sunset. Street performers will be entertaining along the waterfront before the sunset Friday and Saturday evening.
Sunday, August 16 will feature Worship on the Bay at 10 a.m. at Waterfront Park. The Bay Harbor Bow Wow will take place in the Village at Bay Harbor at 10:00 a.m. with all proceeds going to the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society.
