April 25, 2009 - But more than anything, the story of her becoming a model is a great example of how hard work and persistence can make all the difference for young people who dream of entering a modelling career.
Twenty-five year old Lu’s early attempts to become a model were a mixed bag of disappointment and minor successes, as it took her some time to get her modelling career off the ground.
Not only is she a shy person by nature, the first time she signed up with a modelling agency, not long afterwards it closed down. She then had to take a non-modelling job while she tried to find another agency to represent her.
The big break which saw her modelling career really take off was when she won the 2005 Elite Model Look competition. Her win brought a lot of attention, a lot of work, and was the turning point that saw her fulfil her dream to become a model.
Since that point, she has found plenty of work as a model and appeared in spreads for dozens of magazines round the world, including French Biba, Vogue Taiwan, French Glamour, Cosmo Girl, Elle Accessories, Deutsch Magazine, and Bazaar Espanol.
Lu’s rise to fame and a successful modelling career should be an inspiration to young people who are interested in becoming a model, according to Damian O’Connor, Managing Director at large UK modelling agency Models Direct.
“Gwen Lu’s story shows how important it is to really stick it out and believe in yourself when you want to become a model, or achieve any big goal for that matter,” says O’Connor.
“There a many opportunities out there for young people who want to get into modelling. It might take a bit of time, but you can will there in the end.”
