  • Ventura, CA (1888PressRelease) May 22, 2014 - Perches Academy announces that it will convert from private school to a learning center - opening its doors July 1, 2014 to families who homeschool or seek additional curriculum for their children. The new learning center is now accepting applications for the 2014-2015 academic year, for students entering grades K-11.

"We've had such positive feedback from both parents and students, we decided to expand Perches Academy into a learning center, so the whole community can benefit from it," says Dr. Shannon Perches, founder of Perches Academy. "This way we can still offer a full curriculum of math, science, English and social studies - plus support families with tutoring and handpicked classes, based on their individual needs."

The new learning center will cater to three types of students in particular:
    1. Those who are homeschooled and want a full or partial curriculum
    2. Gifted children who need an extra challenge or desire to move ahead in a grade
    3. Students who need to catch up to their peers or need extra tutoring and coaching

"I'm so thankful to have found Perches Academy," says Payyty Auchard, parent of one of Perches Academy's students. "My son was feeling disenchanted with school, not learning the way he wanted to. However at Perches Academy learning became something wonderful and fun for him and he looks forward to attending."

Dr. Shannon Perches established Perches Academy in 2011, after years of disappointment in the public education system. "I witnessed a blatant disregard for the safety and wellbeing of our children," says Perches, principal and founder of Perches Academy. "I decided it was time to establish an intimate academic environment that cared about the students and catered to each one's particular level. Suddenly we found that students who were unsuccessful in the public school system, were now flourishing at Perches Academy due to our customized approach."

And now, for the first time, Perches Academy will open its doors to families who homeschool or seek additional curriculum for their children. Starting July 1, Perches Academy will convert to a learning center that offers the following:
    • One-on-one tutoring, in the form of homework help, remediation (for students who need a little extra help) and intensive intervention (students who are a grade level behind)
    • Small class options of six students or less
    • Independent practice sessions so students can complete their homework at school, under the direction of their teachers
    • Year-round classes and tutoring, so students retain newly acquired knowledge
    • Foreign language options: Spanish, Latin, German, French and Russian
    • Students are taught according to their skill level, so they achieve their full potential

The new learning center provides families with a wide array of options, not previously available. Parents can have their children learn all subjects at Perches Academy - from English and science to social studies and math - or they can just choose one to two classes, depending on their child's needs. The center will provide a full spectrum of assessments to determine each child's best learning modalities, strengths and weaknesses, and preferred learning style.

This new structure addresses the needs of students who need an extra challenge, want to move ahead in a grade level, or struggle to catch up with their peers and need extra coaching. It also provides homeschooling families with options and support they can't find currently. If a parent isn't adept in a particular school subject, or simply needs time to run errands, he or she can bring the student to Perches Academy for the desired allotted time.

"Currently there are many gaps in our public educational system," says Dr. Perches. "Mismanagement and funding cuts have created a decline in the quality of public education. Many parents are deciding to become proactive in their kids' education to ensure acceptance into a great university and a successful career afterwards. We are excited that Perches Academy is able to support them in this endeavor."

Perches Academy will also offer after-school enrichment courses for high-achieving and "gifted" students in areas such as digital electronics, speech and presentation, and mixed media recycled art. The new address will be 1857 Knoll Drive in Ventura. More details on Perches Academy can be found at perchesacademy.org, and tours are available by calling 805.275.1075.
