August 21, 2007 - London (look4insurances): A recently carried out survey has revealed that one in 10 people have lied to car insurers to save on premium costs. The survey shows that people lie mostly about age, address and where the car was parked overnight.
In addition to this, three per cent of insured drivers confessed that they had not declared about breaking bans on speeding or drink-driving. In fact, lying about personal or driving record details can lead to an insurance policy being invalidated.
However, this kind of lying on car insurance is not going to work well for the buyers. Lying costs the auto industry hundreds of millions of pounds and it is the purchasers who are in the receiving end. Eventually, the cost of lying is passed on to consumers in the form of higher premiums.
In the mean time, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) warned that uninsured drivers would have to add £30 a year on average to the premiums of honest motorists. Figures show that a fund set up by the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) to compensate the victims of uninsured drivers paid out £500m last year.
