  • (1888PressRelease) June 07, 2014 - Los Angeles - On June 11, PeaceNow.com will hold Expressions of Peace, an event that brings together film, art, music, dance and conversations about creating peace. The free main event will take place from 7:30-9:30 p.m., with a $30 VIP reception catered by Along Came Mary, taking place from 6:30-7:30 p.m., at a reception center and theater in Santa Monica, Calif. For security purposes, the location will be revealed only to those who register.

The evening begins with a screening of the award-winning, 20-minute film for peace, "Admissions", which stars Academy AwardŽ nominee James Cromwell, and ends with a live performance from international Nigerian/American R&B and pop music star Meaku, a dance for peace from Omalicha Nwa Entertainment, American-born dancers embracing their Nigerian heritage and culture through modernized traditional dances, and news from PeaceNow's Youth Outreach Leader, renowned voice-over actor Greg Cipes.

As people enter the event, they can view a collection of peace murals from Art Miles Mural Project and listen to an original song that Cipes wrote specifically for PeaceNow, among other music.

After the screening of "Admissions," there will be a Q-and-A panel featuring the film's creator, John Viscount, and Lekha Singh, Executive Producer and Co-Director of the documentary film, "Beyond Right & Wrong: Stories of Justice and Forgiveness", whose film trailer will be shown at the event.

A second Q-and-A panel on forgiveness will feature Viscount and Singh, along with PeaceNow Founder Scott Bruer; Jess Larsen, Director of Corporate Partnerships, Arbinger and Founder of ChildRescue.org; and Kathy Eldon, Founder and Chairman, Creative Visions Foundation, which was inspired by the life of her son, Dan Eldon, an artist, adventurer and activist, who was killed in 1993 while on assignment for Reuters News Agency in Somalia.

Very timely is the musical performance being donated by Meaku, who joined with his friend Yung (of the hit group Cali Swag District) to create the song, "Nucleus," produced by Grammy Award-Winning Producer David 'GX' Kirkwood. This song was created to bring more awareness to the situation still ongoing in Nigeria, concerning the lost girls.

"With two million children having been killed by war since 2004 and 300,000 child soldiers forced into wars around the world, we need to do something right now," says Bruer, who founded PeaceNow (a fiscally-sponsored project of Integrated Systems, Inc., a 501(c)(3) corporation) in 2013. "We are blessed that so many creative and intelligent people are coming together to share their artistic gifts and their dedication to creating peace, and to be a part of our night as we introduce what I believe is the most innovative solution to creating peace in a generation."

At the Expressions of Peace event, Bruer will introduce "The Three Pillars to Creating Peace," which will achieve peace by addressing the needs and behaviors of the individual, business and economic systems, and government. He will provide more detail on the programs that PeaceNow is creating, including a Peace Business Certification Program, and a Peace Practitioner Program, and the already underway Peace Petition signature initiative. The organization is also planning the first Peace as an Economic Engine Symposium, scheduled for April 2015. PeaceNow will also be planning more events in Los Angeles and elsewhere in the future.

Gold Sponsors include Coalition for Engaged Education, New Roads School, and filmmaker Alireza Soroush, and the team that helped the Expressions of Peace eventto growfar beyond what was initially planned: DSJ Printing of Santa Monica; Konica Minolta, with offices throughout California and the world; and Trident Communications, also of Santa Monica. This team utilized their relationships to bring recognition of the event from the Art Miles Mural and Peace Project, and from local non-profit fundraiser, Bead Relief, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural (UNESCO). This international organization that recognizes and promotes peace throughout the world has acknowledged PeaceNow as a contributing organization to world peace and supports its mission.
