June 14, 2007 - International patent experts, Atkinson and Company of Sheffield, have secured the UK trademark for ‘Bumble Beer’, on behalf of leading South Yorkshire micro brewery, Wentworth Brewery.
The successful trademark application, which has taken over 12 months to conclude, means that Wentworth can now market its unique local Bumble Beer product under a registered brand.
Ralph Atkinson, director of Atkinson & Company, said: “In such competitive markets as brewing, a trademark can literally be the difference between whether a new product succeeds or fails. There are many breweries that would seek to claim rights over a similar phrase to the one we have successfully trademarked for Wentworth Brewery. The application process was fairly complex and lengthy, and we are delighted to have reached a satisfactory conclusion for the client.”
Wentworth Brewery’s managing director, Steve Beech, said: “Honey beers are becoming increasingly popular, and our own Bumble Beer is starting to attract a tribal following both locally and further afield. As soon as we heard that there was a potential threat of us not being able to register the name Bumble Beer because of possible future trademark restrictions, we consulted the experts at Atkinson & Company immediately.
”Securing the relevant trademarks for Wentworth Bumble Beer allows us to press ahead with our sales and marketing for Bumble Beer, and concentrate on what we do best – brewing top quality real ales.”
