November 03, 2009 - Members of the National Valet Parking Assn. (NVPA) know that when you turn your vehicle’s keys over to a valet, you expect – at least hope – it is in the best of hands. And though the association has several programs to enhance standards for safety and operations, it is always trying to do more to complement them.
With this objective, the Atlanta, GA-based association, founded in 2002, is staging its inaugural Valet Olympics this Thursday, November 5, at Scottsdale Quarter, 15169 N. Scottsdale Rd. in north Scottsdale. The competition designed to recognize the association’s best valets will be a feature of its annual meeting set for November 3 to 6 at W Scottsdale Hotel and Residences.
The 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. competition on the 5th will feature 10 teams and more than 50 contestants from valet firms throughout the country, measuring their skills in four events. These are: Valet Relay, Key Jumble, Individual Maneuvering and Slalom, showcasing contestants’ skills in vehicle movements, memory/quick thinking, parking and precision handling. A Valet Finals, from 4-5 p.m., will highlight the day’s competition, with a Ceremonial Awards Dinner slated for 7:30 p.m. at the W.
Competing teams represent these member-firms: Advanced Parking Concepts – New Jersey; American Valet – Arizona; Ameripark – Georgia; Curbside Hospitality – Massachusetts; Laz Parking – Georgia; Park, Inc. – North Carolina; Quality Parking – California; Sunset Parking Service – California; Towne Park – Maryland; and Ultimate Parking – Massachusetts.
Event sponsors are The Toledo Ticket Company, SD2K, Sentry Protection Products, The Valet Spot, KangaRoo Shoes and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
Membership information is available through The association’s Website, www.nvpaonline.com.
