September 19, 2007 - Ramsey, Minnesota — Just two months after receiving Kenneth Davids’ highest award for their Ethiopian Biloya Special coffee roast (97), Paradise Roasters has done it again, receiving another outstanding review rating of 97 for their Kenya Wagumuga coffee. They also garnered one of the highest ratings ever awarded a Panama Hacienda La Esmerelda roast at 96 points. More new ground was broken in the most recent CoffeeReview.Com ratings from Kenneth Davids with a 92 score achieved for Paradise Roasters’ Hawaiian Ka’u, the highest score ever achieved by a Hawaiian coffee.
Paradise Roasters’ continued ratings excellence prompted Kenneth Davids to remark, “Paradise Roasters remains one of the top small roasting companies in the United States. Miguel Meza continues to buy not only the finest coffees in the world, but the most distinctive and diverse. His is a wide-ranging, cosmopolitan palate that can distinguish fine degrees of quality in coffee types that many American green coffee buyers haven't even begun to buy, much less understand.”
In his August 2007 reviews on CoffeeReview.com. Mr. Davids wrote about the stunning Kenya AA Wagamuga coffee from Paradise Roasters, “A coffee as extravagant as it is classic.” He continued, “In the cup surprisingly full in body, with a delicately syrupy mouthfeel and a deeply lush, floral-saturated honey character with a hint of dry berry.” Of the 96-rated Panama Hacienda La Esmerelda Gesha from Paradise Roasters, Mr. Davids comments, “Tart but lushly sweet aroma: Floral-saturated cherryish fruit and a cedary milk chocolate. In the cup the acidity is big, roAutoCADund, and deeply sweet, the general structure dry but opulent with a basket of berry/cherry notes, honey, flowers, chocolate.” The third coffee from Paradise Roasters rated in the August 2007 edition of the coffeereview.com web site was the Hawaiian Ka’u, from the Will and Grace Farm. It sparked another interesting comment by Ken Davids, “With fruit removal and drying performed using traditional artisan methods increasingly abandoned by the larger Kona mills, bold beans and a big, sweet, classic cup, this particular Ka'u certainly rivals the best of any Kona I have cupped.”
