PAPRAS To Hold Induction Ceremonies

The Philippine Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, Inc. (PAPRAS) will induct new members to the association on March 29, 2008.

(1888PressRelease) March 18, 2008 - The Philippine Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, Inc. (PAPRAS) will hold its Induction Ceremonies on March 29, 2008, at the Astoria Plaza Hotel in Pasig City, Philippines. Established in 1961, the PAPRAS is composed of Filipino aesthetic plastic and reconstructive surgeons who have completed at least five to six years of formal training in plastic and reconstructive surgery in training hospitals sanctioned by the Association and have passed a rigorous written and oral examination for certification given by the Philippine Board of Plastic Surgery, the only organization recognized by the Philippine College of Surgeons to grant board certification in the field of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in the Philippines. Members of the PAPRAS have also met the standards of ethical practice set by the Association.

There are 4 residency programs in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery which are accredited by the Philippine Board of Plastic Surgery and the Philippine College of Surgeons. These are the training programs of the UP-PGH Medical Center, UST, and the 2 consortium programs approved by the Philippine Board of Plastic Surgery where residents rotate in various hospitals. Completion of the accredited plastic residency training program enables the doctor to become a "board-eligible" plastic surgeon, meaning that he is qualified to take the written and oral examinations of the Philippine Board of Plastic Surgery. After the doctor passes both written and oral examinations, he becomes a "board-certified" plastic surgeon.

Induction confers on the inductee the title of "Fellow, Philippine Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons" and entitles the inductee to append the letters FPAPRAS after his name. Membership in the PAPRAS confers the highest professional distinction for Filipino plastic surgeons since the PAPRAS members are the only specialty practitioners of aesthetic (cosmetic) and reconstructive plastic surgery that are duly recognized by the Philippine College of Surgeons.

Plastic surgery is a highly sophisticated medical specialty involved with correcting deformities that are congenital (in-born) or acquired from accidents or aging, in order to restore or enhance form and/or function. Cosmetic or aesthetic surgery is dedicated not only to the return of the face and body to normal but to improvements that surpass the normal.
