February 04, 2009 - Snowbasin Ski Resort, Utah -- Members of the North American and international outdoor recreation industry visited Snowbasin Ski Resort, located in the Wasatch Mountains east of Ogden, Utah, Wednesday at the 2009 Outdoor Retailer Backcountry Base Camp (BBC).
The BBC provided retailers the opportunity to test ski and snowshoe hardgoods, winter clothing, avalanche survival equipment and other backcountry accessories before making purchasing decisions for the 2009/2010 winter selling season.
"Yesterday's BBC was an energetic launching point for the outdoor recreation industry, kicking off the show season in a fun, low-key and informative way," said Kenji Haroutunian, Outdoor Retailer's show director.
New for this year, the BBC's expo area was located at Snowbasin's main lodge, instead of the resorts Old Day Lodge. The new location provided attendees with vastly improved lodge facilities, easier access to ski lifts and an extensive Nordic skiing trail system.
"It's a prime location-parking is easier and it looks like a little community," said Jane Rackl, a Nordic walking instructor and Leki ambassador. "Snowbasin is the best demo location."
The expo area was home to close to 50 exhibitors providing product demos to more than 700 retail buyers. Buyer attendance was on par with last year's BBC attendance.
The BBC kicked off the five-day show known as 2009 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, an exposition full of winter recreation product demonstrations, launches, seminars, clinics, advocacy outreach and networking. The trade-only event is being held at the Salt Palace Convention Center and runs Thursday through Sunday, January 22-25.
