August 23, 2007 - As MBC Global continues to expand cultural bridges on their website, mbcglobal.org, the organization is seeking the help of other groups to build the cultural data contained in each bridge.
The Cultural Bridge provides website visitors with information about specific cultures. The goal is to provide a central spot educating people of the qualities and values cultures. There are currently 22 culture bridges shown on the website. Bridges are dedicated to the internal dimensions of culture, such as generation, physical capacity, ethnicity, or gender; the external dimensions of culture such as religion, occupation, musical preferences, appearance, and economic standing; and workplace culture such as corporate structure, management status, management style, and job classification.
Cultural Bridges are designed to contain information about the history of the culture, important dates to the culture, cultural holidays, cultural symbols, cultural beliefs, and other information pertinent to developing business, personal, and professional relationships with members of the culture. Businesses catering to the culture and books about each culture are also located on some of the Cultural Bridges.
MBC Global intends to add blogs to cultural bridges later this year. The organization is seeking safeguards to prevent misinformation from being posted on the blogs. Wikipedia.com has experienced significant problems by allowing people to directly post unmonitored information on their website. With the sensitivity and importance of accurate cultural information, MBC Global made the decision to postpone direct visitor input.
Cultural organizations interested in helping to build the bridges should contact MBC Global by using the links on each Cultural Bridge at mbcglobal.org.
