About Chris
The paintings of Chris Spuglio deal with the inescapable mortality of all organic beings. But, rather than focus on aspects of death, Spuglio seeks to establish a connection between every living thing through this lens of mortality. Known as a texturizer as well as a contemporary abstract artist, Spuglio’s most recent work has a more natural focus, recalling a wide variety of organic forms. His awareness of color and how it represents the various phases of natural life helps facilitate a personal discourse between the work and the viewer. “I am fascinated with the transition between the stages of existence and non-existence,” Spuglio explains. “Organic bodies in mid-transition as they break down and disappear, reciprocating the growth process.”
Born and raised in Boston, Spuglio committed his life to the arts early in his youth. Studying at Massachusetts College of Art, Spuglio went on to complete his BA in Fine Art from Salem State College and continued to pursue a professional arts career with numerous exhibitions throughout New England and beyond. In only nine years of tireless work, his paintings have been shown in prestigious venues such as the Smithsonian, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Guggenheim, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
