Old World Luxury Meets New World Charm At Sofitel Macau At Ponte 16

There’s no better way to experience Macau’s old word charm than by staying at the the magnificent Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16. This five-star hotel is ideally located in the historic city centre, just a short distance from the Ruins of St Paul, and A Ma Temple.

(1888PressRelease) January 20, 2009 - These must-see landmarks are an essential part of any walking tour. Indeed, any architectural buff will marvel at the confluence of World Heritage sites, European architecture and Chinese buildings that Macau has to offer.

The city became the 31st designated World Heritage site in China in 2005 when it joined the UNESCO World Heritage list and 25 of its building and sites now have “protected” status.

A-Ma Temple, one of the oldest and most famous structures in Macau, was built in 1488. Situated on the southwest tip of the Macau Peninsula, it is dedicated to the goddess of seafarers and fishermen, Matsu. The Ruins of St. Paul's refer to the façade of what was originally the Cathedral of St. Paul; a 17th century Portuguese cathedral dedicated to Saint Paul the Apostle.

Another must-see, although not cloaked in old-world charm is The Macau Tower, Billed as the 10th-highest freestanding tower in the world at 1,109 feet, its main observation level is 732 feet high. Protective gear is provided if you want to stroll out on to the outer deck, where you will be greeted with a wonderful and windy view of Macau and the Pearl River. Also located within a 2km distance of the hotel are Dr. Sun Yaet Sen’s House, and the Maritime Museum.

Macau accommodation does not get any better than the Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16. Sitting gracefully on the waterfront of the Macau Inner Harbour it features a multi-entertainment complex, restaurants, and leisure facilities for all ages.

And for history buffs, any short walk around the hotel is a stroll through the ages.

Sofitel Bangkok Silom is one of 200 Sofitel hotels worldwide, located in 53 countries. It is the prestige brand of Accor hotels and was created in 1964. Sofitel prides itself on its “art de vivre a la francaise,” which can be felt in each of its hotels from its décor to its artwork, cuisine and the fabulous uniforms designed by Jean-Charles de Castlebajac, one of the great names of French couture.
