April 28, 2009 - OConnor Insurance and Platinum Funding Solutions are teaming with several area businesses to help the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Metrolina put food on area pantries shelves. According to the Food Bank nearly 14% of our area lives in poverty including 120,000 children and 40,000 seniors. Emergency pantries are reporting a 30% increase in need over this time last year.
Second Harvest Food Bank of the Metrolina serves 14 North Carolina counties including Anson, Burke, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Rowan, Rutherford, Stanly and Union. Serve 5 counties in South Carolina including Lancaster, York, Spartanburg, Union, Cherokee. The Food Bank provides food to over 600 partner agencies. With the economy taking a toll on our community the need for food has sharply risen.
OConnor Insurance and Platinum Funding Solutions are hosting a Food Drive from Monday, April 27th until Friday, May 8th. For every 5 items donated from the Food Banks most needed list or a $5.00 cash donation you will receive an insulated Recyclable Tote in thanks for your donation! Every $1.00 donated provides 6 pounds of food! Most needed items include canned meats & fish, canned vegetables and fruit, soup, cereal, tuna, pastas, sauce, rice, peanut butter, jelly, deluxe mac & cheese, baby food, laundry & dish detergent, shampoo, deodorant, toilet paper and diapers.
