March 30, 2009 - As educators, the owners of Oasis feel keeping academic skills strong during summer months is important to parents today. That is why their campers will launch into a summer full of reading adventures with the encouragement of The Tree Fort Challenge. The Tree Fort Challenge is a unique feature of Oasis Summer Day Camp. It is an optional reading game designed to reward campers for the time they spend reading during the summer. “Campers are asked to read books they enjoy on topics they are interested in,” says Oasis owner James Schamber. “Comic books/graphic novels, newspapers, books on tape, even being read to by an adult counts.”
Campers receive bookmarks and game boards on which to score their progress. Prizes can be redeemed once a camper’s game piece has reached a reading milestone. Because each camper is a one-of-a-kind reader there is no weekly timeline in which to redeem prizes. “During the school year students have deadlines and responsibilities to meet, so the Tree Fort Challenge is relaxed,” says James. “It’s a great way of promoting literacy year-round.” The challenge starts the first day of camp and finalizes on Oasis’ last day.
To take part in this opportunity along with many other exciting adventures, remember parents, register by April 6 to assure your place at Oasis Summer Day Camp and receive an additional 2009 camp t-shirt! Early registration is from January 1 to April 6, 2009. Registration is $100 per camper, is nonrefundable, and not a part of tuition costs.
Late registration is from April 7 until all camp positions are filled. Late registration is $150 per camper, is nonrefundable, and not a part of tuition costs. Late applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
