April 29, 2009 - Squad Music Group has officially signed gifted rap singer/actress SomaliA, star of the web series “Building Somalia”, to an exclusive recording contract.
As the world is fixated on stunning tales of piracy and dramatic rescues in the Gulf of Arden, a depressing truth has been hidden from the eyes of mainstream America. Somalia remains one of the poorest countries in the world with as much as 73% of its population surviving on less than $2.00 a day.
Civil war (including the infamous Battle of Mogadishu), famine and the lack of an unsteady government caused many families to flee and seek refuge around the world. In the United States Minnesota became the new home of many native Somali’s.
SomaliA, whom is represented by Adore Management, has been a vocal advocate of not only unity of different areas of her native country,but also the world.
“I always believed that one person can make a difference in this world,” she says,” A leader is ascended when he or she is able to take risks, and that’s what I’m doing right now. I hope that my words, can accomplish what I’m aiming for, which is peace, among nations, religions, race and tribalism.”
Both Squad Music Group and SomaliA agreed to establish a fund and donate a portion of the proceeds of her debut single, “Our Day Will Come” to help families in Somalia.
