June 21, 2009 - KANSAS CITY, MO. – The National Portable Storage Association (NPSA), a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry, has launched the STAR (Status, Trend, Alert Reporting) Database as a benefit to its members.
"We demonstrated the STAR Database to attendants of our Resale EXPO in Santa Barbara earlier this year. Now, we are pleased to announce that the database is fully functional and available to all of our members," said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director of the NPSA. "Using this database in conjunction with our new social networking community will give our member companies a communications edge in the portable storage industry."
The STAR Database is a problem account database that helps members avoid scams, deadbeat vendors and other billing problems. It allows members to search for the names of companies to determine if other members have had fraud, money collection or other accounting problems with them in the past.
The NPSA relies on its members to submit new entities into the database, including bankruptcies, collection payments, NSF checks, final demands, broken promises, skips, past due over 90 days, payment plan and many other status changes. NPSA members can register for the STAR Database online. Members will receive a secure login link to access the database with an e-mail address and a password.
"The database is not solely for negative information," said Joel Rathbone, Operations Manager for the NPSA. "There are also other types of information, such as NPSA sponsors and exhibitors, new owners and updates to collections accounts. Through industry-wide participation, this repository of information can save our members potentially thousands of dollars."
