Nicholas Skally Opens First Solo Show At Gourgaud Gallery -Innovative “Liquid” Style Pushes Boundaries Of Abstract Expressionism

LET IT DRIP STUDIOS Based outside of Philadelphia, PA, Let It Drip Studios is home to a new style of abstract expressionism that emphasizes paintings as “events” and not simply a picture or interpretation of something else – the painting is its own subject.

Trenton-Ewing, NJ (1888PressRelease) June 27, 2007 - Skally brings his innovative abstract painting style to the Gourgaud gallery in Cranbury, NJ with his first solo show on Friday, July 6th from 6-8 pm.

The Gourgaud is located in the Cranbury Town Hall on One Schoolhouse Lane. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. Visit www.letitdrip.com for more information.

"The Gourgaud Gallery is very pleased to exhibit the works of artist Nick Skally. His work brings a unique and exciting approach to abstract painting with layers of color in combination with tremendous texture,” stated Amy Amico, Gourgaud Gallery Chairperson. “The art engages the viewer on multiple levels because of the depth and complexity in each piece."

Let It Drip Studios is the moniker for Skally’s work and a nod to Jackson Pollack’s revolutionary technique of dripping paint onto a canvas. Skally takes this approach one step further, by incorporating water and acrylic medium, then allowing the materials to drip off the canvas — drying to his signature effect. Skally incorporates the skillful use of a palette knife to complete the look.

“The plethora of textures he assembles attracts the eye, and the combination of colors sooth the mind,” commented James McManaman, owner of Absolute Abstract Gallery in Philadelphia. “Nicholas’ work has been a hit in our Gallery on 13th Street.”

Skally is largely self-taught. He has been painting with acrylic, oil, and ink for 10 years, but only recently began promoting his work. He embraces the idea of painting “just to paint,” and views the completed painting as the outcome of an event. Skally’s other inspirations include Kandinsky, Max, Monet, Munch, and Van Gogh.

“It’s my dream to develop a style of painting that will be considered an evolution of modern art and a revolution of genre,” commented Skally. “The multiple layers and thick textures of my paintings give them a depth and intricacy that come to identify my unique style.”

Skally’s work is featured in galleries in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. To see Skally’s paintings, learn about other upcoming exhibitions and read his favorite artists’ quotes, please visit www.letitdrip.com.
